Ralph E. Johnson

Software And Its Engineering

Ralph E. Johnson is a computer scientist and research associate professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is one of the four co-authors, together called the Gang of Four, of the book Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software. He was an early contributor to the Smalltalk programming community, served in leadership roles at the OOPSLA conference, and founded its Design Fest workshop. He received the Dahl-Nygaard Prize in 2006 and the ACM SIGSOFT Outstanding Research Award in 2010.
