Vikram Adve

Vikram Adve (born June 28, 1966) is a computer scientist and the Donald B. Gillies Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he also holds a professorship in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is best known as co-creator, alongside Chris Lattner, of LLVM, the compiler infrastructure project they designed and developed beginning in 2001; the pair received the 2012 ACM Software System Award for the LLVM software system. His research spans compilers, programming languages, edge computing, approximate computing, software security, system reliability and parallel programming. Since 2020 he has served as co-founder and co-director of the Center for Digital Agriculture and leads AIFARMS, a 20 million dollar National Artificial Intelligence Research Institute. He earned his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1993 and previously worked as a research scientist at Rice University before joining the Illinois faculty.
