Ben Mildenhall is an American computer scientist and co-founder of World Labs who is best known as a lead co-creator of Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF), a method for representing 3D scenes from a small set of photographs using a differentiable neural representation. He earned his PhD from UC Berkeley in 2020, advised by Ren Ng and supported by a Hertz Fellowship, and worked as a research scientist at Google Research from 2021 to 2023. With collaborator Pratul Srinivasan he later developed further neural scene representations including Mip-NeRF, Mip-NeRF 360 and Block-NeRF, and the pair received the ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award for their contributions to radiance field representations and 3D scene capture and rendering.
