Gennady Stolyarov I

Gennady Stolyarov I (October 24, 1933 - January 3, 2025) was a Belarusian computer scientist who led the Software Division at the Minsk Computer Factory in the Soviet Union from 1959, directing development of software for the Minsk series of mainframe computers, of which roughly 4,300 were built, comprising about 70 percent of Soviet mainframes in service. His division produced compilers for FORTRAN, ALGOL and COBOL, operating systems and test systems, and turn-key software for payroll and accounting, satellite telemetry, and census data processing. He received the IEEE Computer Society's Computer Pioneer Award in 2000 for pioneering development of Minsk series computers' software and for information systems software, applications and database management systems concepts, and died in Dortmund, Germany, at age 91.
