Gerald Jay Sussman is the Panasonic Professor of Electrical Engineering at MIT, where he has worked in artificial intelligence research since 1964. He and his student Guy L. Steele Jr. invented the Scheme programming language in 1975, and with Hal Abelson and Julie Sussman he co-authored the influential textbook Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs.
