Magdalena Mouján

Magdalena Mouján (March 26, 1926 to July 17, 2005) was an Argentine mathematician of Basque descent, a pioneer of computer science, operations research and nuclear physics in Argentina, who also wrote award-winning science fiction under the pseudonym Inge Matquim. After completing a doctorate in mathematics at the National University of La Plata in 1950, she became in 1957 one of four founding members of an operations research group sponsored by the Argentine Army, and her calculations contributed to the design of the RA-1 Enrico Fermi nuclear reactor, work carried out using Clementina, Argentina's first scientific computer. She held teaching positions at several Argentine universities, including the Catholic University of La Plata and the National University of Córdoba, and in 1968 won joint first prize at the Mardelcon science fiction convention for her story Los Huáqueros.
