Nasir Ahmed (born 1940) is an American electrical engineer and computer scientist, professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering at the University of New Mexico. He is best known for inventing the discrete cosine transform in the early 1970s, the most widely used data compression transformation and the basis for most digital media standards in image, video and audio, and he also described the related discrete sine transform.
