Isaac Chuang

Isaac L. Chuang is an American electrical engineer and physicist who is a professor of electrical engineering and physics at MIT, known for pioneering nuclear magnetic resonance based quantum computing before turning to trapped ion quantum computing. He is best known for co-authoring, with Michael Nielsen, 'Quantum Computation and Quantum Information,' widely used as one of the primary reference textbooks in the field. He earned undergraduate degrees in physics and electrical engineering from MIT and a PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1997 under advisor Yoshihisa Yamamoto, and has also worked at IBM, the University of California, Berkeley, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2010 and was named to MIT Technology Review's TR100 list of top innovators under 35 in 1999.
