This group gathers pioneers of computing methodologies whose primary contribution was generating, rendering or manipulating visual imagery by computer, including interactive graphics systems such as Sketchpad, rendering and ray tracing techniques, texture mapping and shading, computer animation and the studios built around it, computer aided design, data driven and scientific visualization, and the graphics behind early video games. It follows the Computer graphics second level heading of the ACM Computing Classification System under Computing methodologies. Their shared work is producing a visual image from a computer model, as distinct from computer vision's task of interpreting an image that already exists.
