David G. Lowe is a Canadian computer scientist who earned his doctorate from Stanford University in 1985 and later taught at the University of British Columbia before joining Google as a senior research scientist. He is best known as the creator of the Scale-Invariant Feature Transform, known as SIFT, an algorithm for detecting and describing distinctive local features in images that became one of the most widely used tools in computer vision for object recognition and image matching.
