Rozsa Peter

Rozsa Peter was a Hungarian mathematician and logician regarded as the founding figure of recursion theory, the branch of mathematical logic that studies which functions can be computed by systematic, step by step procedures. Her 1951 book Rekursive Funktionen was the first book length treatment of recursive function theory and is often described as the first book on modern mathematical logic written by a woman, and in 1976 she published a further book applying recursive function theory to computer science. In 1973 she became the first woman elected to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
