Serge Haroche

Theory of Computation

Serge Haroche (born 1944) is a French physicist and professor at the College de France who shared the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics with David J. Wineland for ground breaking experimental methods that enable measuring and manipulating individual quantum systems. Working at the Ecole normale superieure in Paris, he demonstrated quantum decoherence experimentally in 1996 by trapping and observing individual photons in a cavity, research in cavity quantum electrodynamics that gave physicists direct experimental access to the boundary between quantum and classical behavior.
