Wolfgang Handler

Computer Systems Organization

Wolfgang Handler (11 December 1920 - 19 February 1998) was a German computer scientist and professor at Leibniz University Hannover and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, working across automata theory, parallel computing, artificial intelligence, human computer interaction and computer graphics. In 1958 he developed the Handler diagram, also called the Mn graph or Kreisgraph nach Handler, a minimization procedure for circuit synthesis that arranges minterms on a circle in Gray code order, which became a widely used tool in digital electronics and switching circuit theory. His research also helped establish classification frameworks for parallel computer architectures.
