Adele Goldstine

Also Known As Adele Katz
Computer Systems Organization

Adele Goldstine was an American mathematician who wrote the first complete technical manual for the ENIAC, the general-purpose electronic digital computer built at the University of Pennsylvanias Moore School of Electrical Engineering during the Second World War. As a supervisor within the wartime computing program, she trained the team of women selected to operate and program ENIAC, teaching them the machines logical structure well enough that they worked out how to run problems on it with no prior example to follow, since no computer of its kind had been programmed before.
