FAQs

How did Lotfi Zadeh change computer science education at Berkeley?

He turned Berkeley's electrical engineering department into EECS in 1968.

Zadeh became chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1963. In 1968 he completed the transformation of that department into the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, known as EECS. The source credits this move with helping Berkeley rise in computer science education and research, and with leading other research universities around the world to add computer science to their electrical engineering departments.
