Frank Harary

Theory of Computation

Frank Harary was an American mathematician widely regarded as one of the founders of modern graph theory, the study of networks of points connected by lines. He standardized much of the fields terminology and extended its methods into physics, psychology, sociology and anthropology, publishing more than 800 papers with roughly 300 different collaborators over his career. His 1969 textbook Graph Theory became a standard introduction to the subject, and the graph and network theory his work helped establish underlies data structures, algorithms and network models used throughout computer science.

FAQs

Which journals did Frank Harary help found?

He was a founding editor of the Journal of Graph Theory and the Journal of Combinatorial Theory.

Harary served as an editor of around 20 journals, and for two of them, the Journal of Graph Theory and the Journal of Combinatorial Theory, he was a founding editor. His work as editor and author is part of why he is known as one of the fathers of modern graph theory.
