Theory of Computation

Markus Franz Xaver Johannes Oberhumer developed the original lzop implementation of the Lempel-Ziv-Oberhumer (LZO) lossless data compression algorithm, released in 1996 and based on earlier algorithms by Abraham Lempel and Jacob Ziv. The reference implementation is written in ANSI C and is available as free software under the GNU General Public License, and the copyright for the code is owned by Oberhumer. He also wrote lzop, a command-line frontend to the library. LZO focuses on decompression speed and is used by the Linux kernel in btrfs, initramfs, SquashFS, zram and zswap, and by FFmpeg for lossless video compression.
