Human-Computer Interaction

Human-Computer Interaction groups the computing pioneers in this atlas whose central, explicitly stated contribution concerns the design, evaluation, and theory of interfaces between people and computers. Members range from the researchers who founded the discipline and built the first interactive systems and the computer mouse, through the figures who articulated usability heuristics, direct-manipulation interfaces, and graphical interaction guidelines that remain foundational to interface design education today. This is the founding subarea of the ACM Computing Classification System Human-Centered Computing area, named for the direct interaction between a person and a machine rather than for any wider social or collaborative setting a system might also be used in.
