Steve Vickers (computer scientist)

Theory of Computation

Steve Vickers is a British mathematician and computer scientist who wrote the ROM firmware and manuals for three early 1980s home computers, the ZX81, the ZX Spectrum and the Jupiter Ace. Working first for Nine Tiles, he adapted the 4K ZX80 ROM into the 8K ZX81 ROM and then wrote most of the Spectrum ROM. In 1982 he left Sinclair Research to form a company with Richard Altwasser that became Jupiter Cantab and produced the commercially unsuccessful Jupiter Ace. He then turned to academic research in geometric logic, writing over thirty papers and the book Topology via Logic, and was a senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham until his retirement in October 2018.
