Petit Computer is a software development application for the Nintendo DSi and later Nintendo handhelds, developed by the Japanese studio SmileBoom in Sapporo and first released in 2011. It is built around SmileBASIC, a custom dialect of the BASIC programming language, and lets users write, edit and run their own games and other small programs directly on the handheld using its onscreen keyboard, without a separate computer or development kit. As a BASIC dialect, SmileBASIC follows a procedural programming style, with line-numbered or structured statements, variables and simple control flow aimed at users who are new to programming. Petit Computer predates the unrelated later SmileBASIC release for the Nintendo 3DS, which shares its name but is a separate, more capable successor application.
