Scripting Language

A language designed for short programs that automate tasks or glue other programs and systems together, typically interpreted and used without a separate compile step. This is a common industry term, not a distinct ACM Computing Classification System Language-types node; it is used here because it is how the founding wave already described these languages and the six core ACM CCS buckets above do not distinguish it. Belongs here: Perl and PHP. Does not belong here: an interpreted language whose primary design goal is a specific paradigm, such as Python, filed under Multi-Paradigm Language.
