Bertram Vivian Bowden, Baron Bowden (18 January 1910 to 28 July 1989), was an English scientist and educationist. After wartime work on radar at the Telecommunications Research Establishment and the United States Naval Research Laboratory, he joined the Manchester electronics firm Ferranti, where he became what he called the world's first computer salesman, researching how computers might be used across different industries and travelling the world to introduce customers to the very idea of a computer. He left Ferranti in 1953 to become principal of the Manchester College of Science and Technology, and edited the 1953 book Faster Than Thought, an early and influential work on computing.
