Turing is an educational, structured procedural programming language designed by Ric Holt and James Cordy at the University of Toronto, first released in 1982, intended to teach structured programming with a clear, Pascal-like syntax while fixing several of Pascal's well-known usability problems for students, such as awkward string handling and rigid type declarations. Turing was widely adopted in Canadian secondary school and introductory university computer science courses through the 1980s and 1990s, and a later object-oriented dialect, Object-Oriented Turing, extended the language with modules and classes.
