The Nussinov algorithm is a nucleic acid structure prediction algorithm used in computational biology to predict how an RNA molecule folds into its secondary structure, using dynamic programming. It was developed by Ruth Nussinov in the late 1970s to replace manual analysis of RNA folding with an automated computational method, since an RNA molecule's function depends heavily on how it bonds with itself. The algorithm runs in cubic time and quadratic space relative to sequence length, which keeps it practical for RNA sequences of moderate size.
