The Cray EL90 series was a family of air-cooled vector supercomputers that Cray Research first sold in 1993. It evolved from the Cray Y-MP EL minisupercomputer and was compatible with Y-MP software, running the same UNICOS operating system. Three models made up the range. The EL92 held up to two processors and 64 megawords (512 MB) of memory in a deskside chassis, the EL94 held up to four processors in the same cabinet, and the EL98 was a revised Y-MP EL with up to eight processors and 256 megawords (2 GB) of memory in a larger Y-MP EL style cabinet. Input and output ran through a subsystem built on the VMEbus with a Heurikon processor board based on the Motorola 68000, which also provided the serial console. Larger models consumed about 6 kVa per cabinet and could be powered from regular machine room mains power. The Cray J90 series superseded the EL90 series.
