Mojo

Mojo is a programming language created by Modular Inc., the company founded by Chris Lattner, the original architect of Swift and LLVM, together with Tim Davis. It was first made available through a hosted online playground in May 2023, with downloadable compilers following later that year. Mojo was designed to combine the ease of use of Python with the performance needed for demanding artificial intelligence workloads, targeting hardware such as GPUs, TPUs and other AI accelerators. Its syntax is deliberately close to Python and it can import Python modules directly, while its type system and compiler take design cues from Rust; an early goal of being a strict superset of Python was later abandoned. The compiler and standard library were released as open source under the Apache License 2.0 with LLVM exceptions.
