AT&T Labs

AT&T Labs, Inc., formerly AT&T Laboratories, Inc., is the research and development division of AT&T, the telecommunications company. It employs some 1,800 people in various locations, including Bedminster and Middletown in New Jersey, Manhattan, Warrenville, Austin, Dallas, Atlanta, San Francisco, San Ramon and Redmond. AT&T Laboratories was founded in 1996 as a result of the split of AT&T Bell Laboratories into separate research and development organizations supporting AT&T Corporation and Lucent Technologies, with Lucent retaining the name Bell Labs, and it also traces its origin to Southwestern Bell Technology Resources, founded in 1988. Much research is in areas traditionally associated with networks and systems, ranging from the physics of optical transmission to foundational topics in computing and communications.
