Marching Cubes Algorithm

Computational Geometry Algorithm

Marching cubes is a computer graphics algorithm, published in the 1987 SIGGRAPH proceedings by William Lorensen and Harvey Cline, for extracting a polygonal mesh of an isosurface from a three-dimensional discrete scalar field of voxels. Its applications are concentrated in medical visualization of CT and MRI scan data and in special effects or 3D modeling of metaballs and other metasurfaces. The two-dimensional counterpart of the algorithm is called marching squares.
