NTRUEncrypt, also known as the NTRU encryption algorithm, is a public-key cryptosystem and a lattice-based alternative to RSA and elliptic-curve cryptography, based on the shortest vector problem in a lattice, a problem not known to be breakable using quantum computers. It relies on the presumed difficulty of factoring certain polynomials in a truncated polynomial ring into a quotient of two polynomials with very small coefficients, and because both encryption and decryption use only simple polynomial multiplication its operations are very fast compared with other asymmetric schemes such as RSA, ElGamal and elliptic-curve cryptography, though it has not undergone as much cryptographic analysis in deployed form. A related digital signature algorithm called NTRUSign uses the same underlying mathematics.
