The Xulvi-Brunet and Sokolov algorithm generates networks with chosen degree correlations using a link-rewiring method governed by a single parameter, commonly written rho, that ranges from producing a random network at one extreme to a perfectly assortative or disassortative network at the other. Varying rho lets a researcher tune a network degree correlation while keeping its degree distribution unchanged.
