Couchbase Server, originally known as Membase, is a source-available, distributed multi-model NoSQL document-oriented database software package optimized for interactive applications. These applications may serve many concurrent users by creating, storing, retrieving, aggregating, manipulating and presenting data. Couchbase Server is designed to provide easy-to-scale key-value or JSON document access with low latency and high sustained throughput, clustered from a single machine to very large-scale deployments spanning many machines.
Facts
SignificanceA distributed multi-model NoSQL database evolved from the Membase and CouchDB projects, built for interactive applications. 1 FAQs
How is Couchbase related to memcached?
It speaks the memcached protocol but adds persistence and replication.
Couchbase Server provided client protocol compatibility with memcached, so applications written for memcached could talk to it. It added disk persistence, data replication, live cluster reconfiguration, rebalancing and multitenancy with data partitioning, which memcached alone does not offer.
