Graphical and Unix Workstations

Powerful single-user workstations of the late 1970s and early 1980s that brought graphics and multitasking to a desk. The PERQ was a pioneering workstation produced in the late 1970s, and the Sun-1 was the first generation of UNIX computer workstations and servers from Sun Microsystems. The PERQ was also referred to as the Three Rivers PERQ or ICL PERQ, and the Sun-1 was launched in May 1982. These machines gave a single user a degree of computing power that had once required a shared system.
