Logic programming languages in which a program is a set of facts and rules and the system searches for answers. Prolog is the best known, with roots in first-order logic, artificial intelligence and computational linguistics, and Datalog is a declarative logic language that is syntactically a subset of Prolog. Prolog has its origins in artificial intelligence, automated theorem proving and computational linguistics, and Datalog generally evaluates programs bottom-up rather than top-down.
