Fields concerned with hardware that can change its function after manufacture and with reducing the environmental cost of computing. It covers devices whose logic is rewired for a task, such as field-programmable arrays, and the design and operation of computing equipment to use less energy and fewer resources. A field belongs here when it is about adapting the hardware itself or its resource footprint. It excludes new computing media, which belong to the emerging substrates group, and the architecture of conventional processors, which belongs to Computer Systems Organization.
