Day of the Programmer, also called Programmer's Day, is a professional observance for software programmers and developers. It began as a proposal from Valentin Balt and Michael Cherviakov, employees of the Russian software company Parallel Technologies, and Russian president Dmitry Medvedev later signed a decree establishing it as an official professional holiday in Russia. Programmers in other countries now mark the day informally as well.
