SCM (Scheme implementation)

Functional Language

SCM is an implementation of the Scheme programming language that conforms to the Revised 5 Report on the Algorithmic Language Scheme and to the IEEE P1178 specification. It is written in C and runs under many systems, including GNU/Linux, MacOS, MS-Windows, MS-DOS, OS/2, VMS, Unix and several older platforms. SCM includes Hobbit, a Scheme-to-C compiler originally written by Tanel Tammet, and linkable modules for arrays, records, POSIX system calls, network sockets, readline, ncurses and Xlib. It requires the SLIB Scheme library, and both SCM and SLIB are GNU packages. The project page is published by Aubrey Jaffer, lists the terms as LGPL, and gives version 5f6 as released on 6 August 2026. GNU Guile traces its origin to work built on SCM.
