JScript is Microsoft's dialect of the ECMAScript standard, created in 1996 and used in Microsoft's Internet Explorer. It is implemented as an Active Scripting engine, which means that it can be plugged in to OLE Automation applications that support Active Scripting, such as Internet Explorer, Active Server Pages and the Windows Script Host. JScript is closely related to JavaScript, the language it implements a dialect of, and it sits alongside VBScript, the other Active Scripting language that Microsoft shipped, as well as ASP, Visual Studio and C#. It appears in the TIOBE Index.
