D (programming language)

D, also known as dlang, is a multi-paradigm system programming language that compiles to native machine code, with C-like syntax and support for both automatic garbage collection and manual memory management. It was created by Walter Bright at Digital Mars and first released on December 8, 2001, with Andrei Alexandrescu joining the language design effort in 2007. D is statically and strongly typed with type inference, and supports functional, imperative and object-oriented programming. Though originally conceived as a re-engineering of C++, it has since drawn influence from Java, Python, Ruby, C# and Eiffel, and has been used for systems programming tasks including games, language interpreters, operating system kernels, GPU programming, web development and numerical analysis, with adopters including Facebook, eBay and Netflix.
