Cobra is an open source, general-purpose, object-oriented programming language created in 2006 by Charles Esterbrook. It runs on the Microsoft .NET and Mono platforms and was strongly influenced by Python, C#, Eiffel and Objective-C, the four languages the Programming Language Database lists as related. Early development happened under Cobra Language LLC, and the project's homepage domain was registered in 2008. Like Python it uses semantic indentation, so blocks are shown by layout rather than braces. The sample code on the page defines a class with a main method that prints a greeting, and a Person class that declares fields with var, writes its constructor as cue init and overrides toString. Cobra appears in the TIOBE Index, eleven Project Euler users solve problems in it, and Rosetta Code carries snippets written in the language.
