jq

jq is a command line utility and very high level, functional, domain specific programming language for processing JSON data, created by Stephen Dolan and released in October 2012. It is often described as working like the Unix tool sed, but for JSON rather than plain text, letting users filter, transform and query JSON documents by writing short pipelines of composable operations. The original implementation was written in Haskell before being rewritten in C, and jq has since inspired other implementations, including gojq written in Go and jaq written in Rust. It is released under the MIT License, runs on Windows, Linux, macOS and FreeBSD, and is also available as an embeddable C library called libjq.
