Microsoft QuickBASIC, also known as QB, is both an integrated development environment and a compiler for the BASIC programming language, developed by Microsoft. It ran mainly on DOS, and a short-lived version also appeared for the classic Mac OS. QuickBASIC is loosely based on GW-BASIC but adds user-defined types, improved programming structures and better graphics and disk support, and it supplies a compiler in addition to the interpreter. The Programming Language Database dates it to 1985 and relates it to QBasic, GW-BASIC, Visual Basic, FreeBASIC, QB64, PowerBASIC and Turbo Basic, which together show how it sat in the wider family of BASIC dialects of the period.
