DR-DOS is a disk operating system for IBM PC compatible computers, originally developed by Digital Research under Gary Kildall and derived from Concurrent PC DOS 6.0, itself an advanced successor of CP/M-86. Introduced in 1988, it was the first operating system that attempted to be compatible with both IBM PC DOS and MS-DOS, competing directly with Microsoft DOS on the same hardware.
