A/ROSE

A/ROSE, the Apple Real-time Operating System Environment, is a small embedded operating system Apple Computer built to run on its Macintosh Coprocessor Platform, an expansion card for Macintosh computers, first released in February 1988. Apple designed the MCP as a standardized hardware platform third-party vendors could build products on, but the cost of MCP cards limited adoption, and A/ROSE saw its widest use in Apple's own networking cards for serial I/O, Ethernet, Token Ring and Twinax connections. GreenSpring Computers also built the RM1260, an IndustryPack carrier card with its own Motorola 68000 processor running A/ROSE for data acquisition applications.
