Linus Benedict Torvalds is a Finnish and American software engineer, the creator and lead developer of the Linux kernel since 1991 and the creator of the distributed version control system Git. He shared the 2012 Millennium Technology Prize in recognition of the open source operating system kernel that now runs most of the world's servers and, through Android, most of its phones.
