Magic Cap

Magic Cap, formally the Magic Communicating Applications Platform, was an object oriented operating system that General Magic built for personal digital assistants and released on September 28, 1994. It presented users with a room metaphor interface, moving between virtual spaces such as a home office for writing or a file room for system tasks rather than a conventional desktop. The platform built in Telescript mobile agent technology so tasks could run as automated agents. Sony's Magic Link and Motorola's Envoy were the best known devices to ship with it, both arriving in 1994, though sales were limited. Its final release, version 3.1.2j, came out in 2001 before the platform was discontinued, and its interface ideas went on to influence later systems such as Palm OS and iOS.
