Mobile and Handheld Operating Systems

This group gathers operating systems built for smartphones, tablets and other handheld personal devices, including the two dominant modern platforms Android and iOS, the earlier smartphone era systems Symbian, BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, BlackBerry Tablet OS, Palm OS and webOS, the short-lived Firefox OS and Access Linux Platform, the early handheld communicator Magic Cap, Huawei HarmonyOS and HarmonyOS 5, and the Vivo-developed BlueOS. Their shared identity is a touch or handheld-first operating system designed around a mobile device constraints of battery, screen size and cellular connectivity, as distinct from an embedded operating system built for a fixed or special-purpose device with no general user interface, which belongs to Embedded and Real-Time Operating Systems.
