Symbian is a discontinued mobile operating system and computing platform designed for feature phones and smartphones. It was originally developed as a proprietary software OS for personal digital assistants on June 5, 1997, by the Symbian Ltd. consortium, and is a descendant of Psion's EPOC. Used primarily by Nokia and also by Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson devices, it was the most popular smartphone OS on a worldwide average until the end of 2010, when it was overtaken by iOS and Android.
