DG/UX was a Unix operating system Data General built for its Eclipse MV minicomputers and later its AViiON line of workstations and servers, combining UNIX System V with additions from BSD. The first, 1.00 release in March 1985 drew on UNIX System V Release 2 and 4.1BSD, and by 1987 version 3.10 added 4.2BSD TCP/IP networking, NFS and the X Window System. Version 4.00 in 1988 was a substantial redesign on System V Release 3 adding symmetric multiprocessing support, and version 5.4, from around 1991, introduced unified virtual memory management in place of the older Unix buffer cache and later moved onto System V Release 4 foundations; the last release was 5.4 Release 4.20 in April 2001.
