System 573

Commercial Computer

The System 573 is an arcade system board made by Konami and based on the original PlayStation. It was used mainly for Konami's Bemani music game series, including the Dance Dance Revolution series introduced in 1998. It has a 33.8688 MHz MIPS R3000A processor, 4 MB of work RAM, 2 MB of video RAM and 512 KB of sound RAM, with a PlayStation sound processor and a CD-ROM drive for storage. Compared with the console it doubles the work and video memory, drops the CD controller and adds an IDE port, a battery-backed real-time clock, JAMMA and JVS interfaces and PCMCIA slots. Expansion boards create variants known as System 573 Analog and Digital, plus a Satellite Terminal that can network up to eight cabinets to a central one. The name comes from Japanese wordplay on the readings of the numbers five, seven and three.
