Jin Yilian

Jin Yilian (born September 5, 1929) is a Chinese computer scientist and a pioneer of supercomputing in China. After graduating in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University in 1951, he studied electronic computer science at the Soviet Academy of Sciences from 1956 to 1958, work that grounded his subsequent career leading the design of successive generations of Chinese supercomputers. He was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1994 and received China's State Preeminent Science and Technology Award, the country's highest scientific prize, in 2002; asteroid 100434 Jinyilian, discovered in 1996, is named in his honor.
